In the past few weeks I have seen a handful of women rocking flawless skin, casual hair, refined skirts, sandals, nice handbags, big diamonds and tie-dye shirts. While I can only hope to replicate a fraction of this look it hasn’t stopped me from thinking about it. C helped me out on Friday. To celebrate the end of the week of summer camp they tie-dyed clothing. He was suppose to grab one of his white shirts but while rinsing out his creation I noticed that he actually took one of mine (which is good because I was pondering the pros and cons of wearing my 6 year old son’s shirts).

Take two. I like this version much better. I made it a bit smaller, a few inches longer, lengthened the shoulder straps, cut the skirt a size wider (in order to match the pattern to the bodice) and hand sewed the zipper (still the bain of my sewing existence). I should get in the habit of first making all new patterns out of cheap muslin. Instead I fall in love with a pattern and then with a fabric and then I am so impatient that I immediately make it. Some lessons are hard to learn…but on reflection it is a small blessing in disguise as I have replaced romantic love/infatuation with fabric love/infatuation which is considerably easier on the heart and mind.

Last night was fantastically fun. The only thing that I would have changed about the night was to have taken a better camera with me. The lighted boats on the river were gorgeous (dare I say marginally better than the fireworks). I spent close to half an hour trying to get a good picture of them but this is the best I could do. The boats and the lights and the rippling water reflecting the fireworks were 1000x more beautiful than this picture of specks.

When I tried this dress on the sales person tending the dressing room offered the (unsolicited) comment that the dress made me look kinda flat. It’s funny because I am not kind of flat I am flat. Her advice was superfluous especially in light of the fact that the dress I was wearing was sized for a child.

Also, did you just LOL at me? Don’t make me hex your good fortunes.
